Application
16:0-d31-18:1 PS may be used in the preparation of lipids substrates and to study the substrate specificity of endothelial lipase (EL) for polar head groups of the phospholipids. It may also be used as an internal standard for lipid extraction from human and murine tissue samples.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Phosphatidylserine (PS) regulates apoptosis and blood clotting. It maintains the activity of receptors, ion channels, enzymes and signaling molecules. PS also modulates membrane fluidity. It has ergogenicproperties and suppresses muscle soreness in athletes.
General description
16:0-d31-18:1 PS is a deuterated phosphatidylserine (PS). This glycerophospholipid is also a natural phospholipid nutrient. Phosphatidylserine (PS) constitutes a major part of the cell membrane. It is present in the lungs, brain, liver, and skeletal muscle.
Deuterated fatty acids experience exchange of the deuteriums on the alpha carbon to the carbonyl, i.e., C2 position, and will therefore be a mixture of compounds that are fully deuterated and partially deuterated at that position.
