Over the last decade, saliva has been extensively studied as a diagnostic specimen due to its non-invasive and simple sample collection/logistics. Like serum, saliva contains hormones, antibodies, growth factors, enzymes, microbes that can be used as biomarkers for disease detection. However, there have been challenges in adopting a saliva qPCR test for molecular diagnostics due to the low concentration of analytes and high concentration of PCR inhibitors in saliva, which typically requires cumbersome sample preparation steps to homogenize the specimen and purify the DNA/RNA.
Lyo-Ready Direct DNA qPCR Saliva is a 4x master mix for the development of DNA saliva testing, enabling highly sensitive detection of target DNA from crudely processed saliva or sputum samples. Lyo-Ready Direct RNA/DNA qPCR Saliva is 4x master mix and can be used for the development of both RNA and DNA saliva testing from crudely processed saliva or sputum samples. These mixes have been formulated to overcome the inhibitors specifically found in saliva samples – no further optimisation is required aside from the addition of primers and probes. Furthermore, these mixes can be used in a wet format or lyophilised to create ambient-temperature stable saliva tests or sputum tests.
