Biochem/physiol Actions
PAI-1 (plasminogen activator inhibitor) produced by platelets takes part in stabilizing blood clotting mechanism. PAI-1 prevents plasminogen activation during fibrinolysis. This might lead to the risk of cardiovascular disease. Elevated levels of PAI-1 has been observed in type 2 diabetes mellitus and serves the reason for reduced insulin sensitivity. PAI-1 stimulates the process of cellular senescence. PAI-1 regulation occurs through p53 dependent TGF-β (transforming growth factor-β) signalling. Studies also also predict that stress and depression might influence PAI-1 expression.
General description
This ELISA antibody pair detects mouse and human PAI-1.
The PAI-1 (plasminogen activator inhibitor) gene is localized to human chromosome 7q22.1. Active form of PAI-1 is expressed in the blood and tissues. Platelets harbor both the active and latent forms of PAI-1.
