Analysis Note
These secondary standards offer multi-traceability to the USP, EP (PhEur) and BP primary standards, where they are available.
Application
Triclosan may be used as a pharmaceutical reference standard for the determination of the analyte in waste water samples and food stuffs by various chromatography methods.
These Secondary Standards are qualified as Certified Reference Materials. These are suitable for use in several analytical applications including but not limited to pharma release testing, pharma method development for qualitative and quantitative analyses, food and beverage quality control testing, and other calibration requirements.
A component of cefsulodin-irgasan-novobiocin selection medium for Yersinia, a human pathogen that may contaminate animal-source food products. Because of its low antigenicity, irgasan is also a component of many antibacterial consumer products.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Irgasan is a broad spectrum antimicrobial agent. It is an inhibitor of the enoyl-ACP (acyl-carrier protein) reductase component of type II fatty acid synthase (FAS-II) in bacteria and Plasmodium. It also inhibits mammalian fatty acid synthase (FASN), and may have anticarcinogenic activity.
