Application

Niacin (Nicotinic Acid) may be used as a secondary pharma standard for the quantification of the analyte in pharmaceutical formulations using spectrophotometric technique and reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography technique.

General description

Niacin (Nicotinic Acid) is commonly used as a dietary supplement, and its deficiency can cause pellagra. It is involved in the synthesis of coenzymes such as NAD and NADP, which are quite essential for enzymatic reactions. As a lipid-lowering agent, it helps in the prevention of coronary heart disease, carotid artery disease and other atherosclerotic vascular diseases.
