Application

Sodium orthovanadate (Na₃VO₄) can be used as a metal precursor in the synthesis of:Vanadium-MCM-48 (V-MCM-48) by anion-exchange method. V-MCM-48 is used as a catalyst in oxidation of styrene to benzaldehyde.Nanorods of vanadium oxide particles by glycothermal method.Yttrium vanadate (YVO₄) doped with colloidal europium.

Biochem/physiol Actions

An inhibitor of protein tyrosine phosphatases, alkaline phosphatases and ATPases.

Inhibits ATPase, alkaline phosphatase and tyrosine phosphatase. Decavanadate, which is formed at acidic pH, inhibits inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP₃)-induced Ca²⁺ release from endocrine cells and blocks IP₃ binding to its receptor in brain tissue.
