General description

Solute carrier family 24, member 6 (SLC24A6) or solute carrier family 8 (sodium/lithium/calcium exchanger), member B1 (SLC8B1) gene codes for Na⁺/Ca²⁺/Li⁺ exchanger (NCLX).NCLX belongs to the Na⁺/Ca²⁺ exchanger (NCX) family. This protein is expressed at a high level in the brain, skeletal and heart muscle, pancreas β-cells, and lymphocyte B-cells. NCLX contains a small regulatory domain that has a phosphorylation site and lacks Ca²⁺ binding domains (CBDs).
