General description
Solute carrier family 22 member 3 (UniProt O75751; also known as EMT, Extraneuronal monoamine transporterorganic cation transporter 3, Organic cation transporter 3) is encoded by the SLC22A3 (also known as EMTH, OCT3) gene (Gene ID 6581) in human. Solute carrier family 22 member 3 is a multi-transmembrane protein that mediates the outward transport and clearance of endogenous small organic cations as well as a wide array of drugs and environmental toxins. Known substrates for this transporter include histamine, serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine and MPP+.
