The CD23 molecule is the low affinity IgE receptor found on B cells. It is a membrane glycoprotein of 45 kD and is reported to be found on a sub-population of peripheral blood cells, B lymphocytes and on EBV-transformed B lymphoblastoid cell lines.
Expression of CD23 antigen has been reported on monocytes and dendritic cells.
CD23 is recommended for the detection of specific antigens of interest in normal and neoplastic tissues, as an adjunct to conventional histopathology using non-immunologic histochemical stains.
