Biochem/physiol Actions

Myelin basic protein (MBP), known as the ‘;executive molecule of myelin′, helps in the formation ofcentral nervous system (CNS)myelin. Elevated levels of MBP in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) are detected in acute neurological disorders like exacerbating multiple sclerosis, and traumatic brain injury. It is also observed at increased levels during chronic progressive disorders including dementia, tumor cerebri, and metabolicdisorders.
