General description
SMC1 is a ATPase and subunit of the multiprotein cohesin complex, a protein involved in chromosome segregation and in double-strand DNA break (DSB) repair. Serine 957 is phosphorylated by ATM in response to DSBs and is involved in the S-phase DNA damage checkpoint.
