Novobiocin, a member of aminocoumarin antibiotics, is naturally produced by Streptomyces niveus. Novobiocin is a well-known inhibitor of bacterial DNA gyrase and mammalian topoisomerase, ATP-dependent enzymes involved in cell division. It can be used in cell culture systems to treat mycoplasma contaminations. Furthermore, Novobiocin has an anti-cancer effects through Hsp90 (heat shock protein) inhibition., In addition, novobiocin shows a minimum inhibitory effect 0.25-16 μg/mL against gram positive and negative bacteria.
Preparation Note
Novobiocin Ready Made Solution is light sensitive. Thaw this product at room temperature. It is recommended to avoid repeated freeze thaw cycles of this product. The suggested concentration of Novobiocin for cell culture assays is 50-1000 μg/mL,,, therefore, it is recommended to dilute the Ready Made Solution 1:100-2000.
