Application
Egg PC has been used:as lipid standard to evaluate the chromatographic column characteristicsas a component in the surfactant comixture for theαVβ3targeted nanoparticlesin liposome preparation
Biochem/physiol Actions
Phosphatidylcholine (PC) functions as a surfactant within the mucus to form a hydrophobic surface to inhibit bacterial penetrance. It is used to treat fat embolism. Phosphatidylcholine lowers the levels of cholesterol and triglycerides.
General description
Phosphatidylcholines (PC) are the building blocks of eukaryotic membranes. It is also found at high levels in C. eleganslipid extracts. It is a strong bilayer-forming lipid. PC is an important component of the mucosal layer of the colon.
