General description
Polymer-based particles for reversed-phase (RP) HPLC generally have two benefits over silica-based particles: They are more tolerant of high and low pH operating conditions and they do not have the silanol interactions that cause peak tailing of strong basic analytes. Also, some silicas have an intrinsic metal content that may cause chelation problems with sensitive biomolecules, leading to poor recovery. Polymeric TSKgel® columns come in C18 and phenyl functional groups and a range of particle porosities. Fast kinetics and quantitative protein recovery at submicrogram loading are characteristic of nonporous resin-based TSKgel Octadecyl-NPR columns. Octadecyl-2PW particles have 125 A pores Octadecyl-4PW particles have 500 Apores Phenyl-5PW RP particles have 1000 A pores Octadecyl-NPR particles are nonporous
