Application
C11 TopFluor® GM3 has been used to visualize GM3 present in UGCG-KO1.3 cells by immunofluorescence microscopy.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Gangliosides function as modulators in regulating various receptor functions, involved in transmembrane signaling. GM3 plays an important role as a metabolic precursor for the formation of more complex gangliosides. It comprises between 80% and 90% of total ganglioside content in liver and adipose tissue, respectively. Additionally, GM3 is known to promote the subcellular redistribution of major caveolin enriched microdomain (CEM) components coordinating signal transduction. The increased levels of ganglioside GM3 in serum is reported in hyperlipidaemic, hyperglycaemic and type 2 diabetic patients.
General description
C11 TopFluor® GM3 is a fluorescent analog of ganglioside GM3 (Siaa2-3Galb1-4Glcb1-1Cer).
