Application
NBD-6 Cholesterol has been used for NBD-cholesterol binding assay, to study the binding of fluorescent NBD cholesterol in the binding pocket concerning ASTER domains.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Cholesterol is produced fromacetyl-CoAby a complex multistep mevalonate pathway. In mammals, liver is the main site of de novo cholesterol synthesis contributing to almost 80% of total cholesterol synthesis. Cholesterol and its metabolites, along with its precursors, play important roles in cellular membrane physiology. They also have roles in reproductive biology, dietary nutrient absorption, stress responses, salt and water balance and calcium metabolism.
General description
NBD-6 Cholesterol is a fluorescent analog of the lipoprotein compound cholesterol, with NBD (2-(4-nitro-2,1,3-benzoxadiazol-7-yl) aminoethyl) being the fluorescent group.
