General description
Total Coliform ID Membrane is a substrate-carrying membrane used for the rapid and qualitative detection of coliform bacteria in food and environmental samples. The discs are placed on the agar surface post-incubation and observed for characteristic color reactions. The membranes contain chromogenic substrates, which serve as the basis for microbe differentiation by color. The target organisms possess enzyme systems that metabolize the substrates in the membrane, leading to a change of color. The colors can be visually detected on the membrane. The principle is based on a specific substrate enzyme reaction in which coliform organisms will form blue, red, and pink-colored colonies.
