Brassica sterol in cerebrospinal fluid might serve as an indicator for Alzheimer′s disease. It is found in rapeseed oil. Brassicasterol is thus, useful in identifying brassica oil and contamination of rapeseed and canola oil in others. Plant sterols can penetrate through the blood brain barrier.
