General description

Diosgenin is a steroidal sapogenin, which is produced by the hydrolysis of the saponin dioscin. It is extracted from Dioscorea,Trigonella, CostusandSmilax species.

Diosgenin is a steroid precursor derived from saponins extracted from the tubers of wild yams.
