Application

It is intended to be used as a USP reference standard in specified quality tests and assays.(1)Also used to prepare the standard solution for identification and assay of tobramycin and its different dosage forms using thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and liquid chromatography (LC) combined with UV detection at 365 nm respectively, as prescribed in the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) for the following monographs: Tobramycin Tobramycin for Injection Tobramycin Ophthalmic Ointment Tobramycin Ophthalmic Solution Tobramycin Injection Tobramycin Sulfate Tobramycin and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic Suspension Tobramycin Inhalation Solution Tobramycin and Fluorometholone Acetate Ophthalmic Suspension Tobramycin and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic Ointment

Biochem/physiol Actions

Tobramycin is an aminoglycoside. Mode of Action: Binds to 70S ribosomal subunit; inhibits translocation; elicits miscoding. Spectrum of Activity: Gram negative bacteria. Not effective against Enterococci.
