Application
modified Tryptic Soy Broth has emerged as the medium of choice for the enrichment of E. coli and Salmonella species in red meats. This medium is not intended for use in the diagnosis of a disease or other conditions in humans.
Features and Benefits
mTSB media renders the isolation simpler, less costly, and substantially suppresses the growth of other gram-negative Enterobacteriaceae species by 90%.
Footnote
We offer two media types: the superior granulated GranuCult® and the cost-efficient powdered NutriSelect® culture media, depending on your needs. The designations basic, plus, or prime are added to indicate the quality control level, from basic quality control to standard QC plus to prime for full regulatory compliance.
General description
mTSB (modified Tryptic Soy Broth) without the addition of novobiocin is a selective enrichment media for the isolation and growth of non-O157 Shiga Toxin-Producing Escherichia coli (STEC) and Salmonella from meat products, carcass, and environmental sponges. For the selective enrichment of Escherichia coli O157:H7 in outbreak-related samples, e.g. fermented sausage, cooked meat products, the addition of novobiocin is recommended. Pancreatic digest of casein, papaic digest of soybean meal, and casamino acids (casein acid hydrolysate) serve as carbon and nitrogen sources, vitamins, and minerals. Glucose also serves as a carbon energy source for rapid growth during the enrichment. Sodium chloride maintains the osmotic balance and dipotassium hydrogen phosphate acts as a buffering agent for maintaining the pH balance of the medium. The addition of Bile salts ensures selectivity of the media.
