Rapidly identify streptococcal groups A, B, C, D, F, and G by latex agglutination using Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Streptococcal Grouping Kit. This rapid latex agglutination test is designed to deliver simple, rapid and sensitive results for the identification of streptococcal groups A, B, C, D, F, and G . The test utilises latex particles coated with group-specific antibodies which will agglutinate in the presence of homologous antigens.

Streptococci are facultatively anaerobic, catalase-negative, Gram-positive cocci that occur as pairs or chains. They cause a wide variety of clinical diseases including pharyngitis, scarlet fever, otitis media, impetigo, meningitis, neonatal sepis, pneumonia, endocarditis, osteomyelitis, and necrotizing fasciitis.

Use this rapid, simple and sensitive test for the identification of streptococcal groups A, B, C, D, F, and G.

  • Rapid—results in two minutes
  • Simple—easy to implement
  • Visual—easy-to-read results
  • Sensitive—use of latex technology makes this test more sensitive
  • All reagents available separately

Lancefield showed that the majority of pathogenic streptococci possess specific carbohydrate antigens, which permit the classification of streptococci into groups. These streptococcal group antigens can be extracted from the cells and their presence demonstrated with latex particles previously coated with group-specific antibodies. These latex particles will agglutinate in the presence of homologous antigen, but will remain in smooth suspension in the absence of such antigen. The Oxoid Streptococcal Grouping Kit is such a latex agglutination test for the identification of the streptococcal groups and reagents are provided for groups A, B, C, D, F and G. The use of a enzymatic extraction procedure considerably shortens the time required for antigen extraction and much improves the antigen yield, partially for Group D streptococci.
