Avoid repeated freeze-thaws.
Target description
Protein S100-B (UniProt: P04271; also known as S-100 protein beta chain, S-100 protein subunit beta, S100 calcium-binding protein B) is encoded by the S100B gene (Gene ID: 6285) in human. S100-B is a member of the EF-hand calcium-binding protein superfamily that is widely distributed and conserved in the central nervous system of vertebrates. It exists in both heterodimeric and homodimeric forms. Existence of dimer of either two alpha chains, or two beta chains, or one alpha and one beta chain has been reported and dimerization seems to be essential for its biological activities. S100-B has been suggested to play a part in a variety of cellular processes, primarily via binding to key synaptic proteins and inhibiting their phosphorylation. The extracellular form of S100-B, secreted by astrocytes, is physiologically involved in the development and maintenance of CNS homeostasis. S100-B effects are closely dependent on its cellular levels. At nanomolar concentrations it is shown to enhance survival of neurons during development and stimulate neurite outgrowth in cerebral cortex neurons. It also reduces the loss of mitochondrial function and cell death. This ZooMAb recombinant monoclonal antibody, generated by our propriety technology, offers significantly enhanced specificity, affinity, reproducibility, and stability over conventional monoclonals.
