Biochem/physiol Actions

S100A10 (S100 calcium binding protein A10) is involved in the regulation of cellular target proteins in response to intracellular Ca²⁺ signals. S100A10 is permanently in an active state due to the replacement of amino acids in its Ca²⁺-binding loops. This makes the protein insensitive to Ca²⁺ signals. It functions as a bridge linking certain transmembrane proteins to annexin A2, thereby regulating intracellular trafficking and functional expression of these proteins at the cell surface.

General description

S100A10 (S100 calcium binding protein A10) gene encodes a protein belonging to the S100 protein family of small, dimeric EF hand-type Ca²⁺) binding proteins. It consists of two EF-hand calcium-binding motifs. It is localized in a tight heterotetrameric complex with the peripheral membrane-binding protein annexin A2.
