Biochem/physiol Actions
2-Arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) functions as an agonist of cannabinoid receptors. It weakens synaptic transmission and acts as a neuromodulator. It has cytoprotectiveactivity. 2-AG stimulates the activation of p42/44 MAPK (mitogen-activated protein kinase), p38 MAPK and c-Jun N-terminal kinase.
General description
2-Arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) is an arachidonic acid-containing monoacylglycerol. It is a potent endogenous ligand for cannabinoid receptors. 2-AG is found in the brain and hematopoietic cells, such as macrophages, lymphocytes and platelets.
