Application
16:0-18:2 PA or 1-palmitoyl-2-linoleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphate (sodium salt) might be used as a standard in thin-layer chromatography (TLC) for the separation of ginger and grapefruit exosome-like nanoparticles (ELN)-derived lipids. It might also be used in filter-blotting assay, to study the interaction of AT-hook motif-containing nuclear localized protein 4 (Ahl4) with PA.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Phosphatidic acid (PA) is a bioactive lipid and acts as a secondary messenger. It is associated with hydrogen peroxide production in the neutrophils. PA stimulates the action of protein kinase for neutrophil respiratory burst. It also participates in Ras mediated signaling pathways. PA reacts with water and other phospholipids to produce lipid bilayers and multicomponent bilayers respectively.
General description
Phosphatidic acid (PA) is an anionic, membrane structural lipid. It is amphipathic in nature containing a polar head group and two long hydrophobic acyl chains. PA acts as a parent compound for more complex membrane phospholipids. 16:0-18:2 PA or 1-palmitoyl-2-linoleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphate is a sodium salt of phosphatidic acid, with substitution of palmitic acid and linolenic acid at the sn-1 and sn-2 positions respectively, in the glycerol backbone.
