Biochem/physiol Actions
16:0-i15:0 is used in the preparation of liposomes and large unilamellar vesicles. Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is essential for maintaining the structure and functions of the membrane. PC is the substrate for sphingomyelin synthesis. PC is the precursor for various second messenger like phosphatidic acid, lysophosphatidic acid, diacylglycerol. Biosynthesis of PC is essential for normal very low density lipoprotein secretion from hepatocytes. PC is the dominant phospholipid present in cancer and non-neoplastic tissues.
General description
16:0-i15:0 phosphatidylcholine (PC) is an asymmetric saturated PC. Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is one of the major zwitterionic glycerophospholipids of the eukaryotic membranes. PC is synthesized in higher eukaryotes via two pathways namely the triple methylation of phosphatidylethanolamine and the cytidine diphosphate (CDP)-choline pathway. PC is a cylindrical shaped molecule.
