C&M Scientific Announces Integration with Northern Balance to Form Labserve

C&M Scientific has announced the integration of its operations with Northern Balance, forming a single, unified organisation as the official service arm of the SLS Group under a new name: Labserve.

The new brand was unveiled at the Scientific Laboratory Show and Conference 2026, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of laboratory service provision across the UK and Ireland. The transition began with an internal launch on Monday 11th May 2026 and will be fully operational from Monday 1st June 2026.

As part of the SLS Group, the integration brings together over 70 years of combined engineering expertise, creating a stronger and more comprehensive service organisation. Labserve delivers a fully integrated approach to equipment lifecycle management, combining enhanced resources, expanded geographic coverage, and a broader technical offering.

The integration will deliver several key benefits, including broader service offerings, increased engineering capacity, and a seamless one-stop-shop approach to servicing, maintenance, calibration and accreditation, all delivered through a more responsive, customer-focused service.

At the heart of Labserve is a commitment to people, both customers and teams, ensuring a service that consistently goes beyond expectations. This people-first approach has long defined SLS and underpins the way Labserve will support laboratories across the UK and Ireland.

“This is a significant step forward in how we support our customers,” said Ian Roulstone, Managing Director of SLS Group. “At SLS, we are a people-focused business. We pride ourselves on finding solutions, delivering above expectations, and providing an unrivalled level of customer service that sets us apart. Labserve is a natural extension of that commitment.”

With a team of 38 engineers operating from six locations across the UK and Ireland, Labserve is positioned to provide improved service coverage and faster response times. The integration also strengthens technical capability across a wider range of laboratory equipment. Importantly, while the name has changed, the people and expertise behind the service remain the same. Customers will continue working with the same trusted teams, ensuring continuity and consistency.

“Labserve is built on the strong foundations of two highly respected businesses,” added Ian Alexander, Managing Director of Labserve. “Our focus is on enhancing what we already do well, delivering reliable, high-quality service, while expanding our capabilities to meet the evolving needs of laboratories. At the heart of this is our commitment to people, both our customers and our teams, ensuring we continue to deliver a service that goes beyond expectations.”

All existing locations will be retained, and there will be no disruption to ongoing operations. Current accreditations, including ISO and UKAS, will remain fully valid, ensuring continued compliance and quality assurance. All existing orders will be honoured and fulfilled under the new Labserve trading name.
