General description
ApoA4, also known as Apolipoprotein A4 or ApoA-IV, is a member of the apolipoprotein A1/A4/E family. ApoA4 is a major component of HDL and it can be found on the surface of newly synthesized chylomicrons. Studies have shown that APoA4 is required for efficient activation of lipoprotein lipase by ApoC-II, which is a potent activator of Lecithin Cholesterol Acyltransferase (LCAT). Other evidence points out that ApoA4 may have a role in chylomicrons and VLDL secretion and catabolism. The physiological function of ApoA4 is not confirmed yet, but evidence from several in vitro studies indicate that it may play a role in the reverse cholesterol transport pathway, transporting cholesterol from peripheral cells back to the liver. ApoA4 is synthesized primarily in the intestine and secreted in the plasma.
Immunogen
