General description

SUN domain-containing protein 1 (SUN1), also known as Protein unc-84 homolog A or Sad1/unc-84 protein like 1 (UNC84A), is a component of the SUN-protein-containing complexes also called LINC (linker of nucleoskeleton and cytoskeleton) complexes. These complexes link the nucleoskeleton and cytoskeleton structures together in a scaffold like fashion. SUN1 is required for interkinetic nuclear migration and nucleokinesis as well as nucleus-centrosome coupling during radial neuronal migration and glial migration in the cortex. SUN1 also is important during meiosis and is required for proper gametogenesis as well. Additionally, SUN1 it is important in the distribution of nuclear pore complexes on the nuclear membrane. Interestingly, LINC complexes are also critical for vital functions such as hearing. For instance, recent research demonstrates that the position of the nucleus in sensory epithelial cells, partly governed by SUN1, appears critical for normal hearing.

Immunogen

MBP-tagged recombinant protein corresponding to the perinuclear space domain of human SUN1.

Epitope: Perinuclear space domain

Physical form

Affinity purified

Purified rabbit polyclonal in buffer containing PBS with 0.05% sodium azide.

Quality

Evaluated by Western Blotting in A431 cell lysate.

Western Blotting Analysis: A 1:1;000 dilution of this antibody detected SUN1 in 10 µg of A431 cell lysate.

Storage and Stability

Stable for 1 year at 2-8°C from date of receipt.

Target description

~ 110 kDa observed. The calculated molecular weight is 90 kDa, however Sun1 has been shown as a ~80-110 kDa band in western blots (Gob, E., et al. (2011). Commun. Integr Biol. 4(4):440-442). Uncharacterized band(s) may appear in some lysates.
