CLP standards for ICP & ICP-MS instrumentation

Our Contract Laboratory Program (CLP) standards allow you to Calibrate with Confidence®. The standards are to be used in conjunction with the Statement of Work for Inorganic Analysis; Multi-Media/Multi-Concentration Document Number ILM 05.3/ISM 01.2.

The final ICP check, performed in our own laboratories, is your stamp of assurance. We calibrate our instruments with traceable reference materials and show you the actual found value of the solution you receive, not just an ideal, calculated number as so many other standards manufacturers do. The combination of elements, concentrations and matrices listed have been diagnosed by Spex CertiPrep® for convenience of use and stability.

US EPA SOW ILM 05.3/ISM 01.2 gives specific procedures for the methods of analysis, target elements, and concentration levels. Standards are specified not only by the elements present and their relative concentrations, but also the order and frequency of running standards, blanks and samples. Details of these specifications may be found in the US EPA SOW ILM 05.3/ISM 01.2 in the following sections:

• Exhibit C, Inorganic Target Analyte List (TAL)

• Exhibit D, Analytical Methods

• Exhibit E, QA/QC Requirements

CLP-M/6020/SW-846 Standards for ICP-MS

A standard must be run at two times the Contract Required Detection Limits (CRDL), or at two times the Instrument Detection Limits (IDL), whichever is greater. This standardization is performed at the start and the end of each sample analysis or at least twice in each eight hour shift. All elements to be analyzed must be run except Al, Ba, Ca, Fe, K, Mg, and Na. ICP-MS Contract Required Detection Limit Standard 1 (04569-06) contains all of the required elements on the TAL, in their appropriate concentration ratios. For ICP analysis, dilute by a factor of 1,000 prior to use in the “two times CL-CRDL” run. For analysis by atomic absorption, dilute by a factor of 2,000 prior to use in the “one time CL-CRDL” run.

Chemicals sold by Cole-Parmer are not intended for and should not be (i) used for medical, surgical or other patient oriented applications, or (ii) combined with any food product or ingested in any form.

This multi-element standard contains 22 components.

• ICP-MS contract required detection limit (CRDL) standard 1 is a 125 mL bottle which contains 500 µg/mL (500 ppm) of Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Sodium; 20 µg/mL (20 ppm) of Aluminum, Barium; 10 µg/mL (10 ppm) of Iron; 6 µg/mL (6 ppm) of Antimony; 5 µg/mL (5 ppm) of Cobalt, Vanadium; 4 µg/mL (4 ppm) of Nickel; 2.5 µg/mL (2.5 ppm) of Copper; 2 µg/mL (2 ppm) of Zinc; 1.5 µg/mL (1.5 ppm) of Manganese; 1 µg/mL (1 ppm) of Arsenic, Chromium, Silver, Thallium; 0.5 µg/mL (0.5 ppm) of Beryllium, Cadmium, Selenium; and 0.3 µg/mL (0.3 ppm) of Lead.
