General description
C8-ceramide or N-octanoyl-D-erythro-sphingosine (C17 base) is a synthetic cell-permeable sphingolipid. It is a combination of C17 analog of sphingosine and octanoic acid. Ceramides are the major lipid component in the outermost layer of the skin, the stratum corneum. C8 Ceramide plays a vital role in inducing apoptotic cell death.
