16:0 PG has been used as a component in internal lipid standard mixture for matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI)- fourier-transform ion cyclotron resonance (FTICR)- mass spectrometry (MS) analysis. It is also suitable to use in liposome flotation assay to study the specificity of protein-lipid interaction.

General description

Phosphoglyceride (PG) are also referred as glycerophospholipid. It is an important component of membranebilayers. It has three-carbon backbone of glycerol, two long-chainfatty acids,esterified tohydroxyl groups on carbons 1 and 2 of the glycerol andphosphoric acidesterified to the C₃hydroxyl group of glycerol. It is found at high levels in the membranes of all cells and at low levels in fat stores.
