Tandem malonate glucoside-A13 (TMG-A13) is involved in stabilizing diverse membrane proteins including G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs). It has a high tendency to form small protein-detergent complexes (PDCs) due to which it is a favorable tool for protein structural studies using X-ray crystallography and cryogenic electron microscopy (cryoEM). TMG-A13 is an alternative to octyl glucose neopentyl glycol (OGNG) because of its enhanced protein stabilization efficiency compared to OGNG.
General description
Tandem malonate glucoside-A13 (TMG-A13) is a detergent. Tandem malonate glucoside-A (TMG-A) is composed of two malonate-derived units linked to each other by a propylene linker. It also contains two alkyl chains which are linked directly to the malonate-based core. TMG-As are water soluble upto 10%.
