Application
Sphinganine-d7 has been used as an internal standard for quantification of sphingolipid concentrations in plasma and tissue samples by high-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Sphinganine (SPA) acts as a selective inhibitor of protein kinase C in intact human neutrophils. It may function a potential biomarker for the diagnosis of sphingolipidoses. SPA accumulation enables fumonisin B1 to stimulate apoptosis. It also has an ability to block cholesterol transport in Niemann-Pick Type C (NPC) disease.
General description
Sphinganine-d7 is a deuterated derivative of sphinganine. Sphinganine, also called as dihydrosphingosine is a derivative of sphingosine. Sphinganines are produced in endoplasmic reticulum, by decarboxylating condensation of palmitoyl-CoA and serine.
