Biochem/physiol Actions
GS87 is a highly specific GSK3 (glycogen synthase kinase 3) inhibitor that induces extensive differentiation of AML cells. GS87 potently inhibits growth of AML cells in mice with little effect on normal bone marrow cells. GS87 causes terminal differentiation of AML cells.
GS87 regulates target proteins, that participates in the multiplication and differentiation of cells, much efficiently than lithium and SB. It helps to initiate mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling, that is required for its differentiation activity. GS87 is considered as a candidate for clinical acute myeloid leukemia (AML) differentiation therapy.
