General description
Catalyzes the isomerization of peroxynitrite (ONOO-) to nitrate (NO3-) under physiological conditions and at realistic dose-derived concentrations (Kcat = 2.2 x 106 M-1s-1). Effectively prevents the oxidation of lipid components by peroxynitrite. Also decomposes superoxide radicals (O2 ) catalytically. Irradiation of the aqueous solution at 335 nm releases hydroxyl (OH ) radicals. FeTMPyP can also serve as a potential drug for reactive oxygen species (ROS) detoxification.
