General description
Yeast VH1-related phosphatase (YVH1), also known as “dual specificity protein phosphatase 12” (DUSP12) is a ubiquitous phosphatase, with relatively high levels of expression in the ovary, testis, spleen, and peripheral blood leukocytes. YVH1 primarily removes phosphate groups from phosphorylated serine, threonine, and tyrosine residues in its target substrates. However, YVH1 also contains a zinc-binding domain which may enable it to interact with other proteins involved in cell growth, cell survival, and cell cycle progression. YVH1 may also be involved in the assembly of ribosomes, and in the biogenesis of the 60S ribosomal subunit. It can be targeted to different subcellular locations by phosphorylation of its Ser335 residue located in the zinc-binding domain.
