Biochem/physiol Actions

SMAD5 undergoes copy number gain and increased expression, rather than loss of expression, and therefore does not act as a tumor-suppressor gene in hepatocellular carcinoma. Up-regulated Smad5 mediates apoptosis of gastric epithelial cells induced by Helicobacter pylori infection.

General description

SMAD5 is known to mediate TGFβ signaling. Studies in mice have shown that Smad5 mutations can be linked to angiogenic defects, mesenchymal apoptosis and embryonic death. Rabbit Anti-SMAD5 antibody recognizes bovine, chicken, human, mouse, rat, zebrafish, and canine SMAD5.
