General description
PKD2L1 (polycystin 2 like 1, transient receptor potential cation channel) is also known as polycystin-L/ transient receptor potential polycystin-3 (TRPP3). It is expressed in brain, kidney, heart, skeletal muscle, spleen, testis, retina and in the bipolar neurons in the tongue taste buds. TRPP3 is present on the surface membrane and/or endoplasmic reticulum membrane of cells. It belongs to the PKD2 gene family. PKD2L1 is mapped to human chromosome 10q25.
