General description
Hormone-specific lipase (HSL, LIPE) is a member of the GDXG lipolytic enzyme family. LIPE is found in the high-density caveolae and upon insulin stimulation it translocates to the cytoplasm. LIPE is expressed in multiple tissues and cell lines and it plays important role in lipid metabolism, including hormone-stimulated lipolysis in adipose tissue and the hydrolysis of cholesterol esters. LIPE has been shown to hydrolyze stored triglycerides to free fatty acids in adipose tissue and heart; while in steroidogenic tissues, it converts cholesteryl esters to free cholesterol for steroid hormone production. Recent studies suggest that the lack of LIPE in genetically obese leptin-null mice inhibit obesity and adipogenesis, and further implying that LIPE plays a major role in adipocyte proliferation.
Immunogen
KLH-conjugated linear peptide corresponding to human LIPE.
