Application

1-desoxymethylsphinganine is suitable for use for testing its cytotoxic effects on primary neuron-glia cultures. It is also suitable for use as a neurotoxic agent in human CD8⁺ T cells. Biochem/physiol Actions

1-desoxymethylsphinganine is neurotoxic towards CD8⁺ T cells and inhibits cytokine production. However, it is not cytotoxic to dopaminergic neurons.

General description

1-desoxymethylsphinganine is synthesized by the condensation of alanine with palmitoyl-CoA.
